VIP Day at the Zoo

A couple of weeks ago Emma won a coloring contest and we got a VIP trip to the Zoo for our family. It was so much fun! We got to ride on our very own golf cart with our tour guide which was very nice on the feet.

We got to choose which animal we wanted to be our close encounter so we chose the tigers. This guy is 2 years old and weighs over 400 lbs. The trainer was showing us some of his tricks but he was being really feisty and kept standing up and growling at us, it was really cool! She had to give him a time out to behave.
They had 4 giraffes and that one in the middle there is pregnant and due next month. Our tour guide said her baby will come out 6 feet tall and Im thinking are you serious, she doesn't even look pregnant, how does she fit a 6 foot giraffe in her without showing it??? Not fair! She said the animals in the zoo are just like that, they don't really put on a lot of weight or show when they are pregnant....I guess that's just for us humans :)
This was their baby monkey, she was so cute. As soon as she saw us pull up in our golf cart she got out of her bed and came and posed here and just stared at me while I took her picture. Our tour guide said her favorite game is to play tug of war with the trainers. She has a big sheet that she will throw at them and they will play tug of war together.
This is their Mommy and her baby elephant. Our guide said that she is a first time mother and that elephants and giraffes don't have instincts on how to care for their babies, the other moms show and teach the new moms what to do, but they don't have another mom to teach her the ropes and they were worried with how things would go but she said she has done so great for a first time Mom all by herself.
They gave us tickets for the carousel and to ride the train.
Besides our close animal encounter with the tiger, I would say the Bird Show was my favorite part. This little guy was right in front while we waited 20 minutes for the show to begin and as soon as the place filled up with people she wanted some attention and started dancing and singing to the music, the more we applauded her the more energetic she got, it was hilarious.
The trainer came out and showed us all these different types of birds and he would have them fly in from all over, they would swoop in right over our heads.
This one was quite the talker.
This owl was flying in and came right at us, it swooped right over my head.
The bald eagle was gorgeous to look at.
The Zoo became a Zoorasic park for the summer and had animated dinosaurs throughout the park. They were so life like it was awesome! They would move around, growl, and some shot water at you.

What a great day at the zoo!
